Meet the team

Miss Linnea Cheung
MA, FRCS (ORL - HNS)

I am a UK-qualified, international fellowship trained consultant ENT surgeon, with a subspecialty interest in otology and hearing implant surgery. I have held a substantive consultant post at the University Hospitals Bristol & Weston NHS Trust since 2022.

I completed my basic medical degree at the University of Bristol in 2010.  Subsequently, I trained as a junior doctor in South London and the Kent, Surrey and Sussex regions, where I completed my basic surgical training and began my career in ENT surgery. I completed my higher surgical training in ENT in Bristol and the surrounding Severn region. In the penultimate year of my training, I was awarded the prestigious Graham Fraser Foundation Fellowship and had the privilege of working with the largest hearing implant programme in Sydney, Australia.  I completed this fellowship in 2021, during which, I gained advanced competencies in treating patients with ear problems, hearing loss and in hearing implantation surgery.

I see and treat both adults and children presenting with general ENT complaints, although my subspecialist area of expertise lies in otology (problems relating to the ear), hearing problems and hearing implantation in both adults and children. I ensure that my private practice perfectly reflects that of my NHS practice. I am a core member of the surgical team at the West England Hearing Implant Programme based at St Michael’s Hospital in Bristol.

I carry out a wide range of general ENT clinic-based procedures including ear microsuction, nasal cautery, flexible nasoendoscopy (flexible camera used to assess the nose and throat), removal of foreign bodies from the nose and/or ear, steroid injections into the middle ear and grommet insertion/removal. I offer a breadth of general ENT surgical procedures in both adults and children, such as grommet insertion, tonsillectomy (both extracapsular and intracapsular techniques), adenoidectomy, septoplasty, turbinate surgery and endoscopic sinus surgery. I also offer more advanced/specialist ear operations including myringoplasty (repair of ear drum perforations), ossiculoplasty (repair of the hearing bones), tympanoplasty, mastoidectomy, operations to treat cholesteatoma, and hearing implantation surgery.

My additional interests include education and training in surgery, and I am heavily involved in the education of ENT surgeons in training.  I hold a Master of Arts degree in Healthcare Ethics and Law, and I keep up to date with current evidence-based practice by regularly attending conferences and courses, to ensure I am always offering all my patients the best possible care.

In my spare time, I enjoy cooking, home crafts, and spending time with my family and our dog.
